Project Overview

Trucha is an independent multimedia platform dedicated to the people, the culture and social movements of the Rio Grande Valley region, centering queer and migrant communities of color. They create and curate audio, video, writing, multimedia projects and community events to craft a more nuanced and holistic narrative about the Rio Grande region. Their mission is to inform readers, inspire the community, and build a collective infrastructure to proudly share the stories of our gente for the world. Their vision is to develop and sustain a platform to showcase the news, the authentic stories and the creativity of the community, where they cultivate a grassroots narrative of the frontera.

The Trucha logo is made up of two elements, the wordmark and mascot, which work together to identify the company. The overarching swooping connections at the top of the wordmark symbolically represent how Trucha’s work builds up the community. The wordmark is a handdrawn script that reaffirms our friendly and approachable tone. Each letterform connects with each other giving it the energetic, uplifting vibe we seek in our brand. Using a structured bold script we’re able to relay the trustworthy and inclusive nature of Trucha.

The Chicharra puts the cha in Trucha. Its song, so loud, so iconic of the sound of summer in the Rio Grande Valley. It is the face of the Trucha brand. Cha Cha’s image and strong wordmark are the most recognizable brand assets.
